Greenwood Women Care (GWC) engages community-minded Greenwood women in collective learning, giving, and growing together. GWC grows through membership of a broad range of women from many professional and personal sectors, and is perpetually open to new members. Each participant will contribute an equal amount annually and have an equal vote in granting determinations.
GWC is self-determining in governance and operations. An active steering committee of eight women are giving a strong foundation and shape to this initiative. Participation is welcomed on this committee, as well as on one or more of our six standing committees. They are Communications, Programs & Education, Grants Review & Awards, Governance, Membership, and Social. Our plan includes continued membership development, with social and learning events having begun in 2018, and the adoption of a granting process, with GWC community grants to be awarded starting in the first quarter of 2019.
The overarching goal of GWC is to allow participants the opportunity for personal growth, to develop as engaged members of our community, and to improve the quality of life for everyone in Greenwood County. The tagline serves as an abbreviated reminder of Greenwood Women Care’s mission:
learn • give • grow.
It was exciting to see so many women at our first Greenwood Women Care community meeting on Tuesday, February 20, at The Museum! We enjoyed a lively reception and informative program. Approximately 90 women attended, numbered evenly among guests and members.
Since that meeting, more women have joined GWC, bringing our current membership to 70! New members are always welcome, and those joining GWC by March 31 will be designated as Charter Members. This is in recognition of their support of this initiative at its very beginning, and Charter Members will be celebrated at a special evening event on Monday, April 30.
Our next GWC quarterly meeting will be on Tuesday, May 15, from 5:30-7:00 (venue TBD). All quarterly meetings are open to all GWC members, as well as any interested women who would like to attend as guests (whether on their own or along with a member).
